Why the iPhone 17 gets attractive this month
The moment the iPhone 18 series goes official, three things happen to the iPhone 17. Apple cuts its official price. Retailers cut deeper to clear stock before Diwali. And banks pile on card discounts and no cost EMI offers for the festive quarter. Stack all three and the same phone that looked overpriced in July becomes the best value Apple has offered all year.
With leaks pointing to a price hike on the iPhone 18 lineup, the gap between the outgoing and incoming generation could be the widest we have seen.
Is a one year old iPhone a compromise?
Far less than with Android. iPhones get five plus years of iOS updates, so an iPhone 17 bought today has a long healthy life ahead. Unless the iPhone 18’s new features solve a specific problem you have, most buyers will never feel the difference in daily use.
How to buy it right
- Wait for the official cut, then compare Flipkart, Amazon and Apple’s own store on the same day. They rarely match.
- Check which credit card gives instant discount that week. This alone is often Rs 3,000 to 5,000.
- Value your old phone honestly. Exchange bonuses spike during festive sales, but selling your old phone yourself sometimes beats the exchange quote. Get both numbers.
- If you take EMI, confirm it is genuinely no cost. Ask for the total payable amount in writing and compare it to the sticker price.
